One of the main reasons why he Walthamstow Memories site was started originally was to remember its roots as an Essex village. The site has been running for fourteen years and has more than succeeded in this objective.
I’m delighted that the site has been expanded to be a Waltham Forest Memories site because, incredible as it may seem to many of us, the former Boroughs of Chingford, Leyton and Walthamstow have been part of Waltham Forest for 50 years and it is even more important that we remember our roots.
At a time when we are commemorating the centenary of WWI, I hope that it is appropriate to offer my article on an aerodrome in Chingford that was to play an important part in training pilots who flew in WWI.
